Cora Gustman Boock: Centenarian 1894-1995

Cora M. Gustman was born 2 February 1895 in Wayside, Brown County, Wisconsin. She met Oscar M. Boock in Wayside, during the time that Oscar served as a founder and Cashier of the Wayside Bank, which his brother Arthur helped him set up.

Oscar M. Boock was one of seven children born to Christian Frederick and Wilhelmina Boock of New Ulm. He was born 16 August 1886 in New Ulm, Brown County, Minnesota.

Oscar and Cora were married 8 June 1915 in Wayside. The newlyweds moved to Spencer in 1915, where Oscar assumed the postion of Cashier, which his brother Arthur held until he returned to New Ulm head the newly founded Farmers & Merchants Bank of New Ulm.

Oscar and Cora purchased Art and Em's Spencer home and raised their three children there; Dr. Frederick Boock, who married Forothy Mae Chatfiled; Oscar "Ozzie", who married Amy Henrietta Bishchoff; and Marguerite, who married Robert Allen. Cora had a brother, Arthur "Art", a well-known craftsman and carpenter, who lived in Spencer.

In 1930, Oscar was recruited as Cashier of the Waterloo State Bank and moved his family to Waterloo, Wisconsin. With this change in the works, Arthur and Emma Boock returned to Spencer, where they moved back in to their former home, albeit attractively remodeled with a sunporch in the front.

Although Oscar (82) died 25 September 1968, in Waterloo, Cora lived to be over 100 years old. She died on 12 March 1995.

Cora always imprssed Marian and Norbert. She maintained her own home into her late 90's, even mowed her lawn with a push mower at that age. Marian considered her a "spiffy" dresser and showed good taste in her home decor.

Cora was my grandmother's (Anna Gustman Fredrickson) sister. I remember Aunt Cora and Uncle Oscar when they visited my grandparents. I still wear the cross necklace Aunt Cora gave my mother (Marie Fredrickson Brodhagen) for her confirmation gift. I believe Aunt Cora was her godmother.
